What is Naprosyn 250mg?
Naprosyn 250mg contains 250 mg of naproxen, the same anti-inflammatory as Aleve and prescription Naprosyn in the USA. It is made in India by RPG Life Sciences.

How Naproxen Works
Naproxen is a non-selective NSAID: it blocks both COX-1 and COX-2, the enzymes that make prostaglandins. Lower prostaglandin levels mean less pain, swelling and fever.
Its main advantage is a long half-life — about 12 to 17 hours — so one dose lasts 8 to 12 hours, and two doses a day are enough for most conditions. Among traditional NSAIDs, naproxen at standard doses has one of the lower cardiovascular risk profiles; its main drawback is stomach irritation.
How to Take Naprosyn 250mg
- Pain, sprains or period pain: two tablets (500 mg) to start, then one tablet every 6–8 hours as needed. Do not take more than 1,250 mg on the first day or 1,000 mg a day after that.
- Arthritis: usually 250–500 mg twice a day, morning and evening.
- Acute gout: 750 mg (three tablets) to start, then 250 mg every 8 hours until the attack settles.
- Take with food or milk, and a full glass of water. Stay upright for a few minutes afterwards.
Naprosyn vs Over-the-Counter Aleve
Aleve tablets contain 220 mg of naproxen sodium, roughly equal to 200 mg of naproxen. A Naprosyn 250mg tablet is a little stronger, and prescription doses — 500 mg to 1,000 mg a day — are higher than the Aleve label allows. If you already take Aleve, do not take Naprosyn as well.
Side Effects
Side effects are usually mild and settle when the medicine is stopped. Taking naproxen with food helps.
Common and usually mild:
- Heartburn, indigestion or stomach pain
- Nausea or constipation
- Headache, dizziness or drowsiness
- Ringing in the ears
- Mild ankle swelling
Stop and get medical help right away if you have:
- Black, tarry or bloody stools, or vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds — signs of stomach bleeding.
- Chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness on one side of the body or slurred speech — NSAIDs can raise the risk of heart attack and stroke.
- Swelling of the face, lips or throat, wheezing, or a widespread rash — a possible allergic reaction.
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes, or dark urine — possible liver problems.
- Passing much less urine than usual, or swelling of the legs and ankles.
Who Should Not Take It
Do not use Naprosyn if you:
- Are allergic to naproxen, or have had asthma, hives or a reaction after taking aspirin or any other NSAID.
- Have an active stomach ulcer or bleeding in the stomach or bowel, or have had one in the past.
- Have severe heart failure, or are about to have (or have just had) heart bypass surgery.
- Have severe kidney or liver disease.
- Are in the last three months of pregnancy.
Talk to a doctor first if you:
- Have heart disease, high blood pressure or have had a stroke, or smoke.
- Take a blood thinner (warfarin, apixaban, clopidogrel), low-dose aspirin, an SSRI antidepressant, steroids, lithium, methotrexate, or a blood-pressure medicine such as an ACE inhibitor, ARB or diuretic.
- Are over 65, drink alcohol regularly, or have had stomach problems in the past.
- Are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding.
Do not take two NSAIDs together — that includes over-the-counter ibuprofen, naproxen and aspirin. Use the lowest dose that controls your pain for the shortest time.
