What is Tizan 2mg?
Tizan 2mg contains 2 mg of tizanidine, a muscle relaxant made by Sun Pharma. It is the same medicine as Zanaflex in the USA.
Tizanidine is used to relieve muscle spasticity — stiffness and spasms caused by multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury or stroke. Doctors also use it, off-label, for painful muscle spasm in the neck and back. The 2 mg tablet is the usual starting dose.
How Tizanidine Works
Tizanidine acts on alpha-2 receptors in the spinal cord and brain, reducing the nerve signals that make muscles contract too much. It relaxes muscle tone without directly weakening the muscles. The effect peaks about 1–2 hours after a dose and lasts around 3–6 hours, so it is often timed to the parts of the day when stiffness matters most.
How to Take Tizan 2mg
- Start with 2 mg (one tablet). It can be repeated every 6–8 hours if needed, up to three doses in 24 hours.
- Your doctor may increase each dose by 2–4 mg every few days. The maximum is 36 mg a day.
- Take it the same way every time — always with food or always without. Food changes how much is absorbed.
- Do not stop suddenly after regular use at higher doses; it can cause a rebound rise in blood pressure and heart rate. Taper as advised.
Drowsiness and Blood Pressure
Tizanidine commonly causes drowsiness and can lower blood pressure, especially when you stand up. Get up slowly, avoid alcohol, and do not drive until you know how it affects you. Your doctor may check your liver function during the first months of treatment.
Side Effects
Side effects are dose-related and often ease as your body adjusts.
Common and usually mild:
- Drowsiness or tiredness

- Dizziness or light-headedness
- Weakness

- Have significant liver disease.
- Are allergic to tizanidine.

- Take blood-pressure medicines, other sedatives, sleeping pills, opioids or birth-control pills.
- Take other CYP1A2-blocking drugs such as certain heart-rhythm medicines, acyclovir or cimetidine.
- Have kidney disease.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
