What is Tofisern 50mg?
Tofisern 50mg contains 50 mg of tofisopam and is made by Consern Pharma in India. Tofisopam is an anti-anxiety medicine, sold in parts of Europe and Asia as Grandaxin. It is not a painkiller.
It is used for anxiety with physical symptoms — tension, palpitations, sweating — including anxiety linked to menopause and stress-related autonomic symptoms. Tofisopam is not approved by the FDA.
How Tofisopam Works
Tofisopam belongs to a group called 2,3-benzodiazepines. Despite the name, it does not act on the same brain receptors as diazepam or alprazolam. It eases anxiety with little sedation, does not relax muscles or prevent seizures, and in studies did not affect alertness the way classic benzodiazepines do. Evidence for it is more limited than for standard anxiety treatments.
How to Take Tofisern 50mg
- The usual adult dose is 50–100 mg (one or two tablets) one to three times a day.
- Do not take more than 300 mg in a day.
- Older adults and people with kidney problems often need about half the usual dose.
- Take it with water, with or without food.
Side Effects
Tofisopam is usually well tolerated.
Common and usually mild:
- Upset stomach, loss of appetite or constipation
- Headache
- Dry mouth
- Irritability or trouble sleeping
Stop and get medical help right away if you have:
- A rash, itching or swelling of the face.
- Confusion or unusual behavior.
- Difficulty breathing.
Who Should Not Take It
Do not use Tofisern if you:
- Are in the first three months of pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
- Have severe breathing problems or sleep apnea.
- Take tacrolimus, sirolimus or ciclosporin — tofisopam can raise their levels.
Talk to a doctor first if you:
- Take other anxiety medicines, sedatives, antidepressants or alcohol regularly.
- Take ketoconazole, itraconazole or other medicines that affect liver enzymes.
- Have epilepsy, depression or liver or kidney disease.

- Store at room temperature, below 86°F (30°C), away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.
