What is Voveran Emulgel?
Voveran Emulgel is a cooling diclofenac gel from Novartis India. It contains diclofenac diethylamine 1.16%, equal to 1% diclofenac sodium — the same strength as Voltaren Arthritis Pain gel sold over the counter in the USA.
It is used for pain and swelling in muscles, tendons and joints: sprains, strains, sports injuries, back and neck pain, and arthritis in the knees and hands. Because only a small amount reaches the bloodstream, it is a gentler option than diclofenac tablets for pain in one area.
How It Works
The emulgel base — a blend of gel and cream — helps diclofenac pass through the skin into the tissue underneath, where it blocks the prostaglandins that cause pain and inflammation. Blood levels are around 5% of those from a tablet, so stomach and heart side effects are much less likely. Independent reviews found topical diclofenac relieves sprain and strain pain about as well as oral NSAIDs.
How to Use Voveran Emulgel
- Squeeze out 2–4 grams (a strip about 1–2 inches long) and rub it gently into the painful area.
- Use 3 or 4 times a day.
- For sprains and strains, use for up to 14 days. For arthritis of the knee or hand, it can be used longer under a doctor’s advice.
- Wait 10 minutes before dressing, and an hour before showering.
- Apply only to unbroken skin — never to cuts, grazes, eczema or infected skin.
- Keep it away from the eyes, mouth, nose and genitals. Wash your hands after applying, unless you are treating your hands.
- Do not cover the area with a tight bandage or use a heating pad over it.
- Do not use more than one pain-relief rub on the same area at the same time.
- Stop and see a doctor if the pain has not improved after 7 days, or gets worse.

Side Effects
Side effects are uncommon and usually limited to the skin.
Common and usually mild:
- Redness, itching or dryness where applied
- A mild burning or tingling feeling
- Sensitivity to sunlight on treated skin

- Blistering, peeling, severe burning or a spreading rash where you applied it.
- Swelling of the face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing.
- Black stools, vomiting blood or stomach pain (rare with gels, but possible with heavy use).
Who Should Not Use It
Do not use Voveran Emulgel if you:
- Are allergic to diclofenac, aspirin or other NSAIDs, or have had asthma triggered by them.
- Are in the last three months of pregnancy.
- Want to apply it to broken, infected or eczema-affected skin.
Talk to a doctor first if you:
- Take NSAID tablets as well.
- Have kidney disease, heart failure or a history of stomach ulcers.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
