- Have severe circulation problems in the legs or Raynaud’s phenomenon.
Talk to a doctor first if you:
- Have diabetes — propranolol can hide the warning signs of low blood sugar, such as a racing heart.
- Have COPD, thyroid disease, liver or kidney disease, depression or myasthenia gravis.
- Take verapamil or diltiazem, other blood-pressure medicines, rizatriptan, or medicines for heart rhythm.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are due to have surgery.
Never stop propranolol suddenly, especially if you have angina or heart disease. Stopping abruptly can cause a rebound in heart rate and blood pressure and trigger chest pain. Your doctor will reduce the dose over 1–2 weeks.
