What is Ecosprin 75mg?

Ecosprin 75mg is an enteric-coated low-dose aspirin tablet from USV, one of the most prescribed heart medicines in India. Each tablet contains 75 mg of aspirin — close to the 81 mg “baby aspirin” used in the USA.

At this dose, aspirin is used to prevent blood clots, not to relieve pain. Doctors prescribe it after a heart attack, stroke, mini-stroke or stent, and for some people with angina or peripheral artery disease. Relieving a headache or migraine needs a much higher dose (300–1,000 mg).

How Low-Dose Aspirin Works

Aspirin permanently switches off the COX-1 enzyme in platelets, the blood cells that clump together to form clots. Because platelets cannot make new enzyme, one small daily dose keeps them less sticky for their whole 7–10 day lifespan. The enteric coating lets the tablet pass through the stomach before dissolving, which reduces indigestion (though not the overall bleeding risk).

How to Take Ecosprin 75mg

  • Take one tablet once a day, after food, at the same time each day.
  • Swallow it whole — do not crush or chew enteric-coated tablets.
  • Do not stop suddenly if you have had a heart attack, stroke or stent — stopping can raise the risk of a clot. Talk to your doctor first.
  • If you also take ibuprofen, take the aspirin at least 30 minutes before, or 8 hours after, the ibuprofen.

Who Should Take Daily Aspirin?

Daily aspirin clearly helps people who have already had a heart attack or stroke. For people without heart disease, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force advises against starting aspirin for prevention at age 60 or older, and says adults 40–59 should decide with their doctor, because the bleeding risk can outweigh the benefit. Do not start daily aspirin without medical advice.

Side Effects

Low-dose aspirin is well tolerated by most people, but it does increase bleeding.

Common and usually mild:

  • Indigestion or heartburn
  • Bruising more easily
  • Nosebleeds or bleeding gums that take longer to stop

Stop and get medical help right away if you have:

  • Black or bloody stools, or vomiting blood.
  • Sudden severe headache, confusion or weakness — possible bleeding in the brain.
  • Wheezing, swelling of the face or a widespread rash.

Who Should Not Take It

Do not use Ecosprin if you:

  • Are allergic to aspirin or other NSAIDs, or have asthma triggered by them.
  • Have an active stomach ulcer, bleeding in the stomach or bowel, or a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia.
  • Are under 16 — aspirin can cause Reye’s syndrome, a rare but serious illness, in children and teenagers.
  • Are in the last three months of pregnancy, unless a doctor has prescribed low-dose aspirin for you.
  • Have severe kidney or liver disease.

Talk to a doctor first if you:

  • Take a blood thinner (warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, clopidogrel) — the combination is sometimes prescribed, but only under supervision.
  • Take ibuprofen regularly — it can block aspirin’s heart-protecting effect if taken before it.
  • Have had stomach problems, gout, or uncontrolled high blood pressure.
  • Are having surgery or dental work — do not stop aspirin on your own if you have a stent; ask your cardiologist.

Please consult your doctor before using this medicine.

How to Store It

  • Store at room temperature, below 86°F (30°C), away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.
  • Keep the tablets in their strip until you need one; do not keep them in the bathroom.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ecosprin 75mg used for?

Preventing blood clots in people who have had a heart attack, stroke, mini-stroke or stent, or who have certain other heart and circulation conditions.

Can I take Ecosprin 75mg for a headache?

No. 75 mg is too low to relieve pain. Pain relief needs 300–1,000 mg of aspirin.

Is Ecosprin 75 the same as baby aspirin?

Very similar. U.S. low-dose aspirin is 81 mg; Ecosprin is 75 mg, the standard low dose in the UK and India.

When should I take Ecosprin?

Once a day after food, at the same time each day.

Can I stop taking Ecosprin before surgery?

Ask your doctor or cardiologist first, especially if you have a stent. Stopping suddenly can increase clot risk.

Should I take daily aspirin to prevent a heart attack?

Only on medical advice. For people without heart disease, the bleeding risk can outweigh the benefit, especially after age 60.
